Sport and Remedial Massage

Sports Massage is the manipulation, management and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is applicable not just to people who do sport but also to anybody who wants to protect against or recover from a soft tissue injury.

Sports massage can be used to target specific areas where the muscles have been over used during repetitive movements or places in the body where there is a build up of tension or an inherent weakness.  Sports massage can be used as a targeted therapy working on certain muscle groups or can be used as a full body therapy.  The practitioner assesses each case and the correct type of massage administered for that particular person.

It can be used to treat a variety of ailments including chronic muscular- skeletal imbalances, sprains, strains or indeed any injury where there is no broken skin.

Remedial massage can help to remove scar tissue, blockages and adhesions caused by injury.  It can help quicken recovery times and offers a more complete healing.  This type of massage is not restricted to injuries however.  It can also be used for other problems such as common back pain, sciatica pain, tension in the neck and shoulders and repetitive strain injury.  Like many forms of massage it increases the circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid helping the body to drain toxins from the body.
